Newcomers to Nova Scotia will now have greater access to trauma therapy thanks to a recent gift from Emera.
Chief Risk & Sustainability Officer, Bruce Marchand, announced the $20,000 donation to the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia at its inaugural RBC Evergreen Gala on November 26th.
“This gift will directly support our New to Nova Scotia Resilience Support Grant,” says Foundation President & CEO, Starr Cunningham. “The grant provides critical group trauma therapy to refugees who are arriving in our province from Ukraine and Afghanistan.”
Currently, there’s a waiting list for the therapy that’s provided in partnership with the Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia (ISANS). Emera’s support will allow more refugees who are struggling with PTSD to participate.
“This gift won’t just change lives, it will save them,” says Cunningham. “It has also encouraged other donors to give.”
Emera is a long-time partner of the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia. Its support makes a true difference in the lives of the one in four Nova Scotians who live with mental illness and addiction, and their loved ones.
