Mental Health Foundation raises over $320,000 with newly branded Evergreen Gala

Monday, November 28th 2022 – The Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia celebrated the launch of its inaugural Evergreen Gala, presented by RBC, Saturday evening. The foundation presented attendees with an opportunity to help further the efforts and reach of the New to Nova Scotia Resilience Support Grant.

This grant is providing professional group trauma therapy to Ukrainian refugees and other newcomers to our province.

This grant allows a psychological expert in Trauma Therapy to provide sessions on the “Building Resilience After Adversity – A Trauma Stabilization Group for Newcomers” program over a 10-week period. The sessions involve a mixture of skills teaching, practice opportunities, and psychoeducation to assist participants with managing their experiences and symptoms. The group is the first stage of treatment for PTSD.

“There’s no doubt this free and accessible trauma stabilization program is saving lives and creating a resilient circle of support in our province,” says Foundation President & CEO, Starr Cunningham. “By working with our partners at the Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia (ISANS) we are facilitating hope and healing for individuals and families who are managing acute symptoms associated with PTSD and associated triggers.”

Event guests were shown a video presentation created by RPM Productions about the need for PTSD trauma counselling for refugees coming to Canada from war-torn countries such as Afghanistan and the Ukraine.

The RBC Evergreen Gala evening was also filled with entertainment and exciting prizes, including a live auction and two notable raffles for a RBC Canadian Open Golf weekend, a necklace from Touch of Gold and a chance to win $5000 from the Steele Streamers popper raffle.

The Evergreen Gala, presented by RBC, was made possible by the generous sponsorship from Advocate, Moore Suites, Steele Auto Group, St. John Ambulance, and partners CTV, Believeco, Bishop’s Cellar, Encore, Glow the Event Store, and RPM Productions.
