October 23, 2019 (Halifax, NS) – Judi Quann has overcome many challenges with mental illness and addiction in her lifetime. Since arriving at Northwood more than three years ago, she has blossomed thanks to the Mental Health & Wellness support program, Seeds of Success. Now Judi paints so much that she’s brightened the lives of residents and staff. Despite her exhausting tri-weekly dialysis treatments, Judi always makes time to help others.

“I don’t think about it. Honestly, I don’t,” says Judi. “Sometimes it’s just a quick help and other times it’s a hug or whatever. Once I know they’re ok, I just get on with other stuff.”

On November 3, Judi will take to the runway as part of the 2nd annual Models for Mental Health and even auction off some of her art work. Proudly presented by Bell Let’s Talk, the fashion show fundraiser showcases designer finds from Nova Scotia’s hottest consignment boutiques in support of Seeds of Success, a Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia Named Grant that funds the Northwood program of the same name. Seeds of Success is a mental health and wellness program that helps residents improve their well-being through therapeutic programming, counselling and peer support.

“Seeds of Success has an incredibly positive impact on all the residents of Northwood and their families,” says Faye LeBlanc, Managing Director of the Northwood Foundation. “Every person who comes out to support Models for Mental Health is helping our residents live full, heathy lives and making a difference in the greater community.”

Models for Mental Health will feature several well-known Haligonians strutting their stuff on the runway. CTV’s Liz Rigney will Emcee the event and models will include Judi Quann, Musician Linda Carvery and family, local entrepreneur Amy Murphy, Kaylee Giffin-Logan aka The Blondielocks and many more! The popular Live More Boutique is back with amazing consignment fashions at discount prices, plus a silent auction with spa services, high-end handbags and much more. There will also be a raffle draw for $2,500 in fuel courtesy of Maritime Fuels.

“Mental health really does affect us all and fashion is one of the ways we can have fun with it,” says Stephanie Graham, Co-Chair of the event planning committee. “We can show up in ways that we wouldn’t normally. We can be vulnerable. We can do all these things that are very freeing which I think opens a door to talk about some things that are a little more difficult to talk about.”

All funds raised go directly to support of Seeds of Success at Northwood’s Halifax campus. To purchase tickets and/or make a donation visit www.mentalhealthns.ca/mfmh. Tickets can also be purchased at Scotiabank locations in HRM.
