Nova Scotia Brotherhood Fund
The Nova Scotia Brotherhood Fund supports the Nova Scotia Brotherhood Initiative by increasing funds to enhance and expand culturally-appropriate mental health supports and services throughout Nova Scotia for men of African descent.
Nova Scotia Brotherhood Initiative is a free program for Black men to access health care in the community to improve overall health and wellbeing. A team of health care professionals provide culturally-appropriate primary medical care plus health and wellness services for men of African descent across Halifax Regional Municipality.
Mental health services include:
Access to social worker, psychologists, psychiatrists and navigation to community-based mental health resources
Peer support groups such as Safe Space Talks, the Nova Scotia Black Men’s Health League, and Barbershop Talks (see video above)
Mental health literacy such as Anger Management and Emotional Intelligence in partnership with the John Howard Society of Nova Scotia
Physical fitness and exercise in collaboration with the Black Wellness Cooperative of Nova Scotia
