Advocate is making this world a better place for all of us by working to change the way people think about mental illness and addiction. The business, headquartered in Pictou, holds the work of the Foundation in high regard and this year is celebrating more than a decade of giving to the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia with an outstanding commitment. Advocate is joining the Foundation as the Forest of Trees sponsor for the 28th annual Compass Group Canada Festival of Trees as well as signing on as the Foundation’s Print Partner.
“When I was in grade four at West Pictou Consolidated Elementary School I co-wrote a regular column called “Bits & Pieces” for The Pictou Advocate, says Starr Cunningham, Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia President & CEO, of Advocate’s flagship newspaper, one of seven community newspapers and 25 publications under the Advocate group of companies umbrella. “It connected me to my community and truly fueled my passion for journalism. That’s just one of the reasons I’m so thrilled to welcome Advocate to our Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia Compass Group Canada Festival of Trees family this year. It’s a partnership destined to flourish and grow!”
Advocate takes pride in serving those in our communities impacted by mental illness and addiction. The printing and publishing company leads by example providing a safe and healthy workplace that fosters an environment to talk about mental health challenges openly and honestly.
“Every facet of our lives is impacted by our mental health. At home, at school, in sport and in our places of work, mental well-being is vital. It’s how we think and react to mental health that will make the difference in all of these aspects of life,” says Sean Murray, President and CEO of the Advocate Group of Companies. “At Advocate, we want to learn more about what we can do to not only change the conversation about mental health, but to support real change in the lives of our workplace family. It will take time, education and investment. We are proud of our new partnership with the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia and we encourage all business leaders in our region to take the time to learn more about what your organizations can do to change the way people think about mental health in our communities.“
The Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia is proud to partner with one of Atlantic Canada’s long-standing companies that connects communities and provides a voice for all Nova Scotians.
