The Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia is rounding out Mental Health Awareness Month with a flourish. The Stanfields are releasing a new single called “Pick Up The Phone” Friday, May 29 with 100% of the proceeds from download sales of the tune being donated to the organization. The single - to be available for sale exclusively on the band’s web store on a “pay what you can basis" - was written to serve as a spiritual follow up to the band’s “Stay The Blazes Home” campaign, which strongly reinforced the Nova Scotia Government's important public health and safety measures on a regional and national scale while raising more than $3000 for local food banks.
“We’ve all been staying the blazes home and trying to make the best of an unprecedented situation in our lifetime,” says Jon Landry of The Stanfields. “We all miss our families and friends. We miss going out. We are all fighting our own internal battles - trying to normalize a situation that is anything but.”
The band has its sights set on raising vital funds for the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia and facilitating positive dialogue about mental wellbeing, particularly in the wake of mandated lockdown, social distancing measures and numerous tragedies impacting our province. It’s hoped that the new single's positive message and uplifting nature will provide hope to Nova Scotians who may be struggling.
“We offer you this lighthearted song in the hopes that it raises your spirits and inspires you to reach out if you are feeling overwhelmed, or if you know someone who is,” says Landry. “We wish you big love and brighter days ahead.“
