Dartmouth, NS - A sea of blue could be seen on the greens on the Glen Arbour Golf Course in celebration of the eighth annual Wilson’s Fuel Charity Classic golf tournament on Monday.
Staff and volunteers from the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia traded their desktops for golf clubs and donned golf shirts in their organization’s signature blue.
Every year, Wilson’s Fuel hosts a Charity Golf Classic and, this year, they chose to support the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia, a cause very important to the Wilson’s Fuel team.
“This year’s tournament is being held in honour of a close friend of the Wilson family who lost his battle with mental illness last summer,” said Leslie Wilson of Wilson’s Fuel. “We are all affected.”
All proceeds from the tournament were donated to the not-for-profit organization located at the Nova Scotia Hospital in Dartmouth.
“We’re so excited to have been chosen as Wilson’s Fuels’ charity of choice this year,” says Starr Dobson, President & CEO of the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia. “We are grateful for everyone on and off the green who is out there making mental health a priority in their communities.”
146 golfers teed off in support of the Foundation, raising over $68,000 for mental health initiatives and services such as mental health staff training, healthy living resources, community integration supports, housing projects, anti-stigma education and anti-bullying programs across the province.
“Heightening awareness and eradicating stigma is an important component of our Strategic Plan. With that in mind, it’s wonderful to see so many people out here happy to make a difference and to help keep that plan well, on track in 2017,” says Dobson, who admitted to getting in some last-minute practice rounds over the weekend.
