On Monday, November 6th, Starr Dobson, President and CEO of the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia, was named one of CAMH’s 150 Difference Makers for her outstanding impact in the community.
In April, the Centre for Addictions and Mental Health (CAMH) asked Canadians to nominate people with lived experience who help create a society where positivity and hope flourish. The award recipients are everyday influencers, from family members to public figures, who inspire constructive conversations about mental health and addiction.
Starr Dobson is dedicated to improving the lives of those living with a mental illness. Starr expresses her vision, “Changing the way people think” through her work with the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia. Starr and the Foundation shape the community by supporting existing programs and developing new ones, such as Camp BELIEVE, that help Nova Scotians living with mental illness.
“It is an honour to be named one of CAMH’s 150 Difference Makers,” says Starr Dobson. “The Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia works every day to change the way people think about mental illness and addictions. This national recognition will allow us to continue doing that, not just in our home province, but right across the country. Congratulations to all of the other Atlantic recipients. Together, we are impacting change and changing lives.”
Since joining the Foundation 2013, Starr has been using her own experiences as someone who lives with depression to raise awareness and eradicate the stigma. She has helped people living with mental illness throughout the entire province and beyond.
Starr will be speaking on behalf of the eight Nova Scotian recipients at the Celebrate CAMH Difference Makers event on Wednesday evening at Pier 21. For more information about Starr and the awards, visit www.give.camh.ca.
