Shubie Classic 5K Goes Virtual!

The Shubie Classic 5K Fun Run is going virtual in an effort to protect runners, volunteers, and the general public from the current COVID-19 pandemic.

”Safety has always been top priority at our event,” says Dean Arbuckle, Race Director/Founder. “The options provided are the safest way to proceed at this time and will provide the best possible future for the Shubie Classic 5K. ”

As the number of coronavirus cases in Nova Scotia continues to grow, businesses and community groups have been advised to limit events and social gatherings to 50 people or much smaller. This will help protect vulnerable Nova Scotians who are at risk for serious illness.

"My message to Nova Scotians is to be home with your loved ones," says Premier Stephen McNeil. "Try to be out of the public as much as you can be."

As a result, the race team will be offering a virtual race instead of the official race on Saturday, April 25th, 2020:

Virtual Race Option-

  • Registration for the virtual run will remain open until April 25th, 2020. Click here to register.

  • Runners will have between April 1 and June 30 to run their race as we understand people are dealing with difficult times.

  • Runners may submit their virtual route which should consist of a planned route equal to or greater than the race distance they registered to run.  This may be accomplished using a fitness tracker or app.

As a charitable event, refunds for 2020 registration will not be offered.

  • Runners can defer their registration to the 2021 event

  • Please email the race team at shubieclassic@gmail.com before April 1st.

  • Registration transfers will no longer be processed after April 1, 2020.

Upon verification of the virtual runs, shirts and finisher medals will be mailed to runners or distributed locally, to help save on postage.

Please understand this decision has been difficult.  The Shubie Classic 5K Fun Run is a charitable event in support of the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia. Nova Scotians living with mental illness and addiction and their loved ones depend on the efforts of all of us in making a difference in their mental health and well-being.

The Shubie Classic appreciates your support your support, patience and understanding during these challenging times. We look forward to seeing your virtual race photos, and seeing you in person at Shubie Classic 5K Fun Run in April 2021.
