December 22, 2020 (Halifax, NS) - A new Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia Grant is helping families and individuals in Colchester-East Hants manage the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and multiple tragedies affecting the region this past year. Thanks to a $150,000 donation from Scotiabank, those who are struggling will get more mental health and addiction support from local community organizations.
“We are proud to support the important work of the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia,” said Peter Fitzner, North East Nova Scotia District Vice President. “In the midst of the global health pandemic, we recognize the positive impact that essential programs and support services have on improving the wellbeing of our communities.”
The Scotiabank Resilience Fund grant will help improve access to programs and services for those living with mental health issues, and in particular will focus on those affected by the tragedies in Nova Scotia's Colchester and East Hants Area. It will reduce barriers to support by enhancing existing programs and creating new mental health initiatives in communities throughout the region.
“There are so many worthwhile organizations in the Colchester-East Hants, and across Nova Scotia who are committed to supporting the resilience and recovery of Nova Scotians living with mental illness and addiction,” says Starr Cunningham, Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia President & CEO. “We are so proud to be able to direct additional funding to this part of our province to enhance supports and services for the mental health and well-being of the entire community when it’s needed the most.”
The Scotiabank Resilience Fund is now accepting applications through the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia’s Community Grants program. Funding will be awarded to successful applicants to support their mental health and addiction initiatives in Spring 2021.
