Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia hosts its Annual General Meeting

July 4th, 2023

Dartmouth, NS - On July 4, community members joined the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia at the Hugh Bell Lecture Hall at the Nova Scotia Hospital in Dartmouth for the Foundation’s 2022-2023 Annual General Meeting.

During the meeting, the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia reflected on its success and shared highlights of 2022-2023, while honouring Nova Scotians in the categories of Partners in our Vision, Outstanding Volunteer and Outstanding Achievement.

The Partners in Our Vision Award was presented to HRM Tim Hortons locations. The Foundation was honoured to be a charity of choice, along with Feed Nova Scotia, for the annual Tim Hortons HRM Smile Cookie Campaign in 2022. Store owners, Nancy Cahill and her son, Mark, accepted the award. In 2022, almost $125,000 was donated to the Foundation.

The Outstanding Volunteer Award was given to Maureen Banyard. A resident of Parkland at the Gardens, Maureen organizes concerts, holiday wreath auctions, mental health events and more. With an annual goal of raising $10,000 for the Foundation, Maureen consistently exceeds her target.

The Outstanding Achievement Award went to the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia’s Grants Selection Committee - Dorothy Edem, Lorna Griffin-Fillier, Barb Hall, Fiona Kirkpatrick Parsons, Morgan Manzer, Bryan Rice (Chair), and Jennifer Simister. Their outstanding and tireless efforts were paramount in awarding the 2022-2023 grants. The seven-member volunteer group reviewed and scored more than 150 applications!

The morning also featured a performance by local, award-winning singer-songwriter, Nicole Ariana, who is both a participant and advocate of the Foundation’s Sound Minds Named Grant. In partnership with the East Coast Music Association, this Foundation Grant provides one-on-one counselling, addiction support and recovery, mental health literacy and peer support at no charge to musicians. Program Lead, Errin Williams, also shared her first-hand experiences with AGM attendees.
