Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia Fundraiser Modified Due to Rise in COVID-19 Cases

(November 23, 2020 – Halifax, NS) - The Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia takes the health and safety of Nova Scotians seriously. Due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Halifax, Foundation staff will no longer be hosting guests inside the Advocate Forest of Trees at The Doyle. The centerpiece of the Foundation’s signature fundraising event, the Festival of Trees presented by RBC will now be viewed outdoors and virtually only.

“The health and safety of our team, volunteers and visitors is paramount,” says Starr Cunningham, President & CEO of the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia. “We are being proactive to reduce the risk to Nova Scotians. We are very fortunate we have the ability to go virtual and allow visitors to view the trees, and read their stories, from the outside looking in.”

The Forest can be viewed from the exterior of The Doyle and a video is now available to view on the Foundation’s website thanks to the Henry’s Camera. Supporters can also bid on their favourite tree until November 28th at fotauction.ca. The online auction, powered by St. John Ambulance, also features more than 50 incredible items including local getaways, at-home experiences, wreaths, sweets, gift cards, and much more.

Nova Scotians can safely show their support for mental health here at home by purchasing tickets to the virtual part of the Festival of Trees- Steele the Spotlight for Mental Health featuring Chantal Kreviazuk November 28th at 7pm. Hosted by former CTV personality Nancy Regan, the online broadcast will feature inspiring stories from those impacted by the Foundation’s important work, and a message from President & CEO Starr Cunningham.

Ticket packages are available for purchase including gourmet food & wine delivery throughout HRM- thanks to Hospitality Sponsor Shannex. Food orders must be placed by Wednesday, November 25 at Noon. Ticket sales end Friday November 27th.

The Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia remains committed to increasing funds to programs and services in communities throughout the province that provide hope and eradicate the stigma surrounding mental illness and addiction. Mental health support is more important now than ever before. To purchase tickets or donate visit mentalhealthns.ca
