$1.4 million in funding awarded to mental health initiatives across Nova Scotia

October 2, 2024

The Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia is awarding $1.4 million to 71 community-based mental health projects in the second round of the 2024-25 Community Grant funding cycle. This funding allows organizations across the province to deliver essential services, supports, and education relating to mental health and wellness, mental illnesses, and addictions.

“Our purpose is rooted in a vision of all Nova Scotians thriving in their communities because they have access to mental health and addictions supports and care,” says Starr Cunningham, President & CEO of the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia. “Our Community Grant program is designed to support projects that are uniquely tailored to a community’s needs with programming that complements clinical treatments, enhances the road to healing and recovery, and creates meaningful and supportive connections.”

Community Grant-funded projects target a wide range of populations including youth, women, the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, seniors, Black and Indigenous Nova Scotians, and new Canadians. Programming addresses areas such as complex trauma, mental health education and training, suicide prevention, addiction, neurodiversity, mood disorders, grief, eating disorders, and psychosis.
