Steven Page to deliver keynote address at Let's Keep Talking on May 8th at the Spatz Theatre

Dartmouth, NS – The Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia is very pleased to announce Let’s Keep Talking with Steven Page of the Barenaked Ladies at the Spatz Theatre on May, 8th. Steven, fresh from the Juno stage and his induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, will speak to the audience about his battles with mental illness and sing some of his most popular songs.

The Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia’s 5th annual Let’s Keep Talking event takes place during mental health week. It’s designed to educate, engage and entertain.

After the success of its inaugural event, Let’s Keep Talking for Clara’s Big Ride in 2014, the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia has continued the tradition, calling on notable Canadian mental health champions to keep the conversation going. Last year’s event featured noted peacekeeper and PTSD advocate Lieutenant-General (retired) Romeo Dallaire.

Presented by Bell Let’s Talk, Let’s Keep Talking will feature the stories and talents of Nova Scotians living well with mental illness. MHFNS Board of Trustees member and TSN reporter, Paul Hollingsworth, will return as emcee. Keynote sponsors are The J. W. Murphy Foundation and The Carleton. Ashton Rodenhiser will be creating live art during the keynote presentation.

“We are so excited to be bringing Steven Page into this very important discussion and celebration of outstanding individuals,” says Starr Cunningham, President and CEO of the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia.  “It’s an amazing opportunity for deserving Nova Scotians to share the stage with a singer and storyteller who is truly dedicated to changing the way people think.”

Let’s Keep Talking will also recognize five Nova Scotians who have had a positive impact on mental health in our province. The winners are Outstanding Youth Christine Southwell, Outstanding Senior Clark Paul, Outstanding Healthcare Provider Dr. Linda Courey, Outstanding Individual Juanna Ricketts and Outstanding Caregiver Bev Fletcher. All will be honoured for their efforts to spread mental health awareness and eradicate the stigma associated with mental illness.

“Bell is pleased to continue our support of the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia’s Let’s Keep Talking event and the role it plays in educating and engaging the community around mental health,” said Glen LeBlanc, Chief Financial Officer, BCE and Bell Canada, and Vice Chair, Bell Aliant. “Every year this event not only recognizes the leadership of mental health advocates in our community, but also encourages people who are suffering in silence to reach out and get the help they need.”

Let’s Keep Talking will raise funds for mental health programs and services across the province. There will be an opportunity to win a 50/50 raffle prize and door prizes.  Let’s Keep Talking is a free event, made possible by the generous support of sponsors, Bell Let’s Talk, J.W. Murphy Foundation, The Carleton, Emera, Northwood Intouch, The Dalhousie University Department of Psychiatry and Blinkhorn Real Estate.
