Overflow seating for Let’s Keep Talking with Margaret Trudeau will be made available April 1st

In response to overwhelming demand for tickets to the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia’s Let’s Keep Talking with Margaret Trudeau event, the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia is pleased to announce 350 more free tickets will be made available for overflow seating.

“We were thrilled when a mental health awareness event sold out in four days, but also cognizant of the fact many Nova Scotians would be disappointed to miss out,” says Starr Dobson, President & CEO of the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia. “We’re very pleased to offer these new seats to people who are keen to hear Ms. Trudeau’s message of hope and inspiration.”

Overflow seating tickets will be made available on Eventbrite: www.eventbrite.ca at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 1st. The overflow area will be in the Citadel High School atrium. Live footage of the stage will be streamed into the atrium for guests. There will be a limit of 4 tickets per guest. Supporters can also reach the Eventbrite link from the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia homepage: www.mentalhealthns.ca

Earlier in March, the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia opened ticket reservations for its Let’s Keep Talking event, and announced the keynote speaker: Margaret Trudeau. Within four days, all 780 free tickets were sold out. The Foundation was overwhelmed with interest from additional supporters and began examining all options that would allow Let’s Keep Talking to reach more Nova Scotians. In partnership with the Spatz Theatre, and Margaret Trudeau’s representative, Speakers' Spotlight, overflow seating was negotiated.

Let’s Keep Talking with Margaret Trudeau will take place on May 3rd at the Spatz Theatre in Halifax during Mental Health Week, presented by Northwest Healthcare Properties. Margaret Trudeau, Canadian icon and author, will speak about living with bipolar disorder, and will share personal stories to remind others of the importance of nurturing the body, mind, and spirit. Her appearance is made possible by Keynote Sponsor, Bell Aliant. The Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia’s third annual Let’s Keep Talking event is designed to educate, engage, and entertain.

The event will also feature the stories and talents of Nova Scotians living well with mental illness. Highlighted performers include: Zac Crouse, singer-songwriter and PTSD advocate; Rachel Hastings, Redfish playwright; Amanda MacLeod, live artist; and Shawntay Rose Dann, African Dance instructor. TSN’s Paul Hollingsworth will return as emcee. As the presentations and interviews will deal with sensitive subject matter, members of Dalhousie’s team will be in the audience to offer Mental Health First Aid if needed.

Additionally, Let’s Keep Talking will honour Nova Scotians who have impacted the mental health community in the province. Let’s Keep Talking Awards will be given in five categories: Outstanding Individual, Outstanding Youth, Outstanding Senior, Outstanding Healthcare Provider, and Outstanding Caregiver. Nominations can be submitted until 4:00 p.m., March 31.

Let’s Keep Talking with Margaret Trudeau in support of the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia will raise funds for mental health programs and services across the province. There will be an opportunity to win a 50/50 raffle prize and door prizes. Let’s Keep Talking is a free event, made possible by the generous support of sponsors Bell Aliant, Northwest Healthcare Properties, Emera, St. John Ambulance, Blinkhorn Real Estate Ltd., The Berkeley Retirement Residences, RPM Productions, and LimeLight.
