Rodd Grand Yarmouth celebrates World Mental Health Day with Food 4 Thought family event

On World Mental Health Day, October 10th, Rodd Hotels & Resorts and the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia will be hosting a thoughtful, thankful gathering at the Rodd Grand Yarmouth. Food 4 Thought is an event centred on four courses, prepared by four families, with four fundamentals of mental health support in mind: family and friends, community, peers, and healthcare providers.

The event is made possible by KC Hospitality and Harm Geurs Design. Proceeds will support the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia.

I am so proud to co-create ‘Food 4 Thought,’ says Kris Crundwell, KCHospitality.ca. “Working with Starr and team at the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia is a blessing, along with having the ability to bring the organization and Rodd Hotels & Resorts together in Yarmouth for a unique culinary event. The event will bring community together and bring awareness to mental health in the communities we live and work in.”

Leading up to the event, Rodd is inviting families from across the province who love to cook, spend time together, and have a mental health connection to apply to take part. Four families will be chosen to receive a one night stay at the Rodd Grand Yarmouth on October 10th and join chefs in the kitchen to prepare one of four gourmet courses: soup, salad, main, or dessert. Each family will also have the opportunity to share their mental health story with guests. Family applications are due September 11th. They are available for download at www.mentalhealthns.ca/food4thought

“Thanksgiving weekend is a perfect time to focus on food, family and fun. The Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia is thankful for Rodd Hotels & Resort’s support and leadership. We’re excited to change the way people think…and eat,” says Starr Dobson, Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia President & CEO.

Food 4 Thought will be a family-friendly event. Tickets are $75.00 each, and free for children under 10 years old (up to two children per family, reduced rate for additional children). The Rodd Grand Yarmouth is offering an $80.00 room rate for guests in celebration of Rodd Hotels & Resorts eightieth anniversary.

Mark Rodd, CEO Rodd Hotels & Resorts looks forward to hosting the first Food 4 Thought event at the Rodd Grand. “We are pleased to support a great organization and cause for Nova Scotians. Rodd Hotels & Resorts is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year and have been a longstanding community supporter in Yarmouth.”

“The staff is excited, as is the community of Yarmouth and surrounding areas,” says Robert Waite, General Manager, Rodd Grand Yarmouth. “This event will bring a stronger awareness to mental health issues in Atlantic Canada and our community.”

Tickets for Food 4 Thought are available by calling the Rodd Grand Yarmouth at (902) 742-2446, or by emailing Robert Waite at rwaite@roddhotelsandresorts.com.

Rodd Hotels & Resorts also recently launched a year-long campaign in support of the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia.  A portion from every room booked at Rodd Hotels & Resorts for business or leisure travel in the Maritimes will be donated to the Foundation when guests use the promo code “MHFNS2015.” For more information, visit: www.roddhotelsandresorts.com/supportmentalhealth
