Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia launches half hour radio talk show on Cobequid Community Radio CIOE 97.5FM

The Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia hits airwaves on May 22 by way of the new Cobequid Community Radio Station, 97.5FM. The half hour show, entitled “Changing the Way People Think with Starr Dobson” will feature the organization’s President and CEO as host. The show will work to increase listeners’ awareness and understanding of mental health and mental illness through interviews with experts, Q & A periods, and sharing relevant support information.

CIOE FM is a not-for-profit community radio station operated by the Cobequid Radio Society (CRS). The concept of establishing a not-for-profit community radio station to serve the diverse communities within HRM’s Cobequid Region was born out of the vision of the late Owen Davis, a beloved Lower Sackville resident, well known for his charitable nature, and his involvement as a community volunteer and business leader.

Friends of Davis; Al Hollingsworth, Ian Morrison and Jim Robson decided to continue moving forward with the project in his memory. The station became an official radio broadcast on May 18.

“This show gives us the opportunity to connect with a new audience in a creative way,” says Starr Dobson. “We’re looking forward to reaching more Nova Scotians with mental health information and stories of hope.”

Changing the Way People Think with Starr Dobson will air Friday mornings at 10:30 am on 97.5FM. The signal is available in the Cobequid region of Halifax, covering areas from Kinsac to Waverley to Glen Arbour, through Halifax. Listeners worldwide can tune in online at cioe.ca. Archived episodes will be made available at mentalhealthns.ca

Listeners can send questions to radio@mentalhealthns.ca to be considered for on air Q & A.
