The Sagewell Association (formerly Chebucto Links Senior Support Association) is connecting caregivers to community with their Bridges of Care pilot project, funded through our Community Grants. The project supports the mental health of caregivers by reducing isolation, and fostering resilience through connection, respite, and access to resources. The project includes educational presentations, self-care activities, and opportunities for peer connection.
Educational sessions include stress management, healthy boundaries, caregiver burnout, resilience, and effective communication. Activities like gardening, woodworking, painting and cooking have created opportunities for caregivers to reconnect with their own interests while building supportive relationships with others facing similar circumstances.
“I cared for my dad for many years until he passed away. Being able to take part in a woodworking class brought back the memory of him as he loved woodworking when he was able. This class was a great opportunity for me to remember that season in a positive light.” — Program participant
