Kick at the Dark Theatre presents Every Brilliant Thing written by Duncan Macmillan with Jonny Donahoe. It stars Andrew Chandler, and is directed by Emily Jewer, with stage management by Emma Roode.
Ice cream, the colour yellow, the smell of old books, people falling over — as a mother battles chronic depression, a child creates a list of everything that makes life worth living. As time passes and the list grows, what began as a naive attempt to deal with tragedy becomes an epic chronicle of life's small joys. Staged in an in-the-round setting, this uplifting and affirming solo storytelling performance is both deeply moving and joyfully funny. Lyn Gardner of The Guardian calls it: “Hearth-wrenching, hilarious... one of the funniest plays you’ll ever see about depression – and possibly one of the funniest plays you’ll ever see, full stop.”
The show runs November 5th to 10th at 8pm, with a 2pm matinee on November 10th. A pay-what-you-can preview will perform November 5 at 8pm. Tickets are $25 + tax, with discounts for students, artists and the underwaged. Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia supporters can use the promo code MHFNS for a reduced rate of $15. Tickets can be purchased through www.tickethalifax.com.
