Building Confidence, One Scoop at a Time

For people recovering from mental illness, returning to the workforce can be an important step toward greater independence, confidence, and connection. It can also come with challenges, particularly after time away due to illness or with limited work experience.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia grants help bridge that gap by supporting employment and pre-employment skill development in communities across the province.

One of those initiatives is Simpson’s Scoops at Simpson Landing, where participants gain hands-on experience in a supportive environment while developing practical workplace skills. From serving customers and monitoring inventory to making change and building confidence, the program helps participants prepare for future employment opportunities at their own pace.

We were delighted to welcome the Simpson’s Scoops team back to our Annual General Meeting this year, where they served ice cream treats to guests and, as a special bonus, kept the celebration going with DJ tunes. Their enthusiasm, professionalism, and warm smiles were a wonderful reminder of the impact community-led programs can have.

Every donation helps make projects like Simpson’s Scoops possible, creating opportunities for people to build skills, strengthen confidence, and reconnect with their communities.
