The Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia is seeking passionate and engaged volunteers to join our Board of Trustees and help guide our mission of supporting mental wellness in communities across the province.

The Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia is Nova Scotia’s only health foundation dedicated exclusively to funding mental health and addictions support. Working with donors and community partners, the Foundation invests in local projects designed by communities, for communities – mobilizing circles of support that reflect Nova Scotia’s unique people, cultures, and places. Each investment helps Nova Scotians access the programs, relationships, and resources they need to thrive in their communities.

What We Are Looking For:
Trustees of the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia are dynamic leaders who have a true passion for changing the way people think and strive to see all Nova Scotians thriving in their communities. They bring diverse perspectives and professional expertise to leading the Foundation’s strategic direction, growth, and revenue diversification. As a Trustee, you’ll help guide a provincial organization that touches thousands of lives in profound ways each year and you’ll do it alongside a team of committed professionals.
We are particularly interested in candidates who offer:
- Strategic vision and the ability to remain future-focused on the Foundation’s purpose, impact, and priorities.
- Community connection, including lived experience or deep ties to the communities we serve, including Mi’kmaq/Indigenous, African Nova Scotian/Black, newcomer, or rural, communities.
- Professional expertise in mental health and addictions, the charitable sector, finance, law, human resources, or public administration are especially welcome.
As the Foundation strives to reflect Nova Scotia’s geographic diversity, candidates from across the province are encouraged to apply, particularly those outside the HRM.

Time Commitment:
The Board meets a minimum of four times per year, plus the Annual General Meeting. Each meeting lasts approximately two hours.
Trustees also serve on one or more a committees of the Board: Finance and Audit, Governance, Grants, Nominating, Strategic Partnerships and Fund Development.
As Ambassadors for the Foundation, Trustees attend Foundation organized and third-party organized events.
All Trustees are expected to be fully informed on Foundation strategy in order to effectively participate in discussions and decisions. Fiduciary responsibilities are paramount.
