In the words of our monthly donors:
“I live with mental illness myself, and in my experience I know how impactful community supports can be, and how much of a difference it’s meant for me to be able to connect with peers, and just in general feel that I’m not alone. Being a monthly donor, I feel that I can be a part of that community of support, and that I’m giving back in donating towards programs and initiatives that help so many.”
“Becoming a monthly donor for the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia was a natural evolution for me. I first became aware of the Foundation through special events. They were fun, and they made me think about mental illness and addiction so I gave at those events. Over time, I started to understand the nature of mental health and addiction; how it is not separate from physical health. Programs, treatments, therapies, innovations – all to make life better for everyone – are not a one-shot deal. If we want something to grow, we have to nurture it. My monthly donation is my way of helping meet the need in a reliable and consistent manner. It also allows me to give more, since it is a steady budgeted amount. Each year, if I’m fortunate enough to get a raise, I increase my donation by the same percent. Little things can become big things. It feels good knowing I am helping.”
Mental health touches us all, with mental illness and addiction affecting 1 in 4 Nova Scotians annually. Whatever your reason for giving, know that with your support, we can make a difference in our communities and in the lives of the countless Nova Scotians who are struggling – together, we can provide hope and change the way people think.
