Hands-on training to improve mental well being

Through our Community Grants, we’re pleased to support Adsum’s PeerWorks project, a hands-on training program for marginalized women, youth, and gender-diverse persons. The training opportunities relate to property management, including cleaning, and includes support from Adsum staff. Participants gain skills and work experience, develop a sense of purpose and take pride in their work, and ultimately improve their mental wellbeing.

“I had been homeless for over nine months when I moved into Adsum. I was beaten down and severely depressed. I honestly didn’t see the purpose of getting out of bed in the mornings. I didn’t want to see or talk to anyone. When I was approached to join the PeerWorks program, I did so even though I had no confidence in my ability to do the job or get out of bed. I can honestly say that the program and my decision to join literally saved my life.”
