Alzheimer’s Awareness Month

January is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, and we’re proud to support dementia-informed mental health counselling for people living with early-stage dementia and their care partners across Nova Scotia.

Through our Community Grants Program, the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia is funding the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia to deliver specialized, dementia-informed counselling tailored to the emotional realities families face after diagnosis.

Clients can access up to 12 counselling sessions focused on anxiety, depression, grief, caregiver stress, and relationship changes. Participants report stronger coping skills, improved mental wellness, and reduced caregiver burnout.

“I’m kinder to myself and have an understanding of the disease. It’s helpful to have a therapist who understands dementia.”
