Music Therapy Awareness Month

March is Music Therapy Awareness Month! Music Therapy is an intervention used by certified Music Therapist within therapeutic relationships, that can provide cognitive, physical, spiritual, social and emotional support.

We’re pleased to support Shoreham Village’s Between The Mountains Music Therapy project through our Community Grants Program.  Music Therapy supports the seniors’ overall needs for health and wellbeing, fostering person-centered care.  The Music Therapist offers a variety of interventions based on the needs of the residents – singing, music games, guided relaxation, movement, song writing and sensory stimulation. Participants may use a tambourine or shakers, sing, tap their toes or just listen.

The benefits of Music Therapy are evident through decreased negative behaviours, increased positive moods and an overall personal well being.

“I like when we have music therapy — it makes me happy.”
