International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia
May 17 is the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia. Trans and nonbinary populations have poorer mental health outcomes than their cisgender counterparts, and access to gender-affirming care and services such as name change is a significant protective factor for trans people.
The Foundation is proud to support Simply Good Form Inc.’s Gender Identity Affirmation Clinics and Barrier-free Name Change Program through our Community Grants Program. In-person and virtual clinics, hosted by allies, create circles of support to streamline the process and help with the financial costs of the paperwork and legal requirements. The program empowers individuals to claim their identities without financial strain or bureaucratic confusion. Legal documents that accurately reflect one’s gender identity removes barriers to continuing with education, joining the workforce and feeling truly seen.
“I have been trying to change my ID for years but the barriers of navigating paperwork alone and having to then have it notarized made the process nearly impossible to accomplish. Having everything in one place, facilitated by trans/queer folks made me feel held through the process and supported by community. Thank you for holding such an important space!” – Name Change Clinic Participant
